Is there a subscription?
No. DeckMemo is $4.99 once — no subscriptions, ads, in-app purchases, accounts or limits. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Does it work offline?
Yes. DeckMemo itself only goes online if you turn on iCloud sync, and then only to Apple's iCloud. Making cards with a chatbot (below) happens in the chatbot's app or website, which needs the internet.
Can my library sync between iPhone, iPad and Mac?
Yes, optionally. Turn on Settings › iCloud › Sync with iCloud on each device, then close and reopen DeckMemo. Your library is kept in your own private iCloud storage. On a new device, turn sync on before adding cards or restoring a backup, or you may see duplicates.
How do I make cards from my notes?
Deck ⋯ menu › Scan Notes into Cards. Use the camera (iPhone/iPad), Photos or Files, fix any mistakes in the recognised text, pick a layout and add the cards. Text is read on your device.
Where is everything on iPhone?
The tabs along the bottom: Home (today's goal, Smart Review and exams), Library (folders and their decks), Decks (every deck: New Deck, its own search, Favorites and sort, and ⋯ on a deck to rename, share, export or delete it), Cards (every card: Add, its own search, Favorites and sort, and ⋯ on a card to edit, share or delete it; long-press works too), Stats, AI (make cards with ChatGPT) and Settings (also in the ⋯ menu on every screen). On iPad and Mac they're in the sidebar.
Why can't I rate a multiple-choice card “Knew It”?
When DeckMemo checks your answer and it's wrong, the card counts as Didn't Know It; if it's partly right, it can't count as Knew It. That keeps your statistics and Smart Review honest.
Can AI make my cards?
Yes, with a chatbot you already use — DeckMemo has no AI of its own and never sees your notes. Open the AI tab (iPad and Mac: Create with AI in the sidebar, or File › Create Cards with AI…) and tap Copy Prompt & Open ChatGPT. Paste the prompt as your first message, add your notes (photos, text, PDFs or slides), and confirm the folders and decks it suggests. Tap Copy on its reply, come back, tap Paste, check the cards and tap Import. Free ChatGPT accounts work; for Claude, Gemini or another chatbot use Copy Prompt for Another AI. If a very long set comes back in parts, paste each one — they're put in the same deck. Folders and decks with names you already have get the new cards added.
How do I draw and add pictures in a Memo?
A Memo starts as a page you type on. Switch to Draw (the pencil) to write anywhere, even over your text; handwriting stays behind the words. On iPad, Apple Pencil draws and your finger scrolls once you've used a Pencil; otherwise your finger draws and two fingers scroll. Photos you add sit beside the text, which wraps around them. Switch to Select (the dashed box) to drag across handwriting and group it, or tap a drawing or photo, then choose Background, Wrap Text or In Line. Drag to move it, or drag the corner dot to resize it.
Fill-in-the-blank, diagrams and typed answers
Cloze: select words in a question and tap the dashed-box button, or type {{answer}} (hint: {{answer::hint}}). Image occlusion: Deck ⋯ menu › Image Occlusion Card, then drag a box over each label. Typed answers: Study Options › Answer › Type the Answer, or set it as the default in Settings.
Multiple choice and scores
In the card editor, turn on Multiple choice, choose Select One or Select All That Apply, and tap the circle (or box) beside each correct option. While studying, pick and tap Check. Every session ends with a percentage score — Knew It counts as correct, Needed Notes as half — plus how many answers DeckMemo checked were right. Past scores are in Statistics › Recent sessions.
Widget and daily reminder
Add the DeckMemo widget to your Home Screen, Lock Screen or Mac desktop. Turn on Settings › Reminders › Daily reminder; it arrives at most once a day, and only when cards are due, an exam is within two weeks, or your streak needs today.
How do I move my library to another device without iCloud?
Settings › Back Up Library creates one .deckmemo file. Send it to the other device (AirDrop, iCloud Drive, Files), open it with DeckMemo and choose Restore from Backup or Merge. Before any restore, DeckMemo saves a safety backup of the current library.
How do I share a deck?
Deck › Share Deck… › Create DeckMemo File › Share. Your study history is included only if you turn it on.
Can I bring my cards from Anki, Quizlet or Noji?
Yes — see the step-by-step guide: Move your cards to DeckMemo. In short:
Anki: File › Export › Anki Deck Package, tick “Include media” and “Support older Anki versions”, then open the .apkg in DeckMemo. Decks, images, tags, clozes and review intervals come across (not audio). Quizlet: set › ⋯ › Export › Copy text, then + › Paste from Quizlet or Noji. Noji: deck › Settings › Export deck › CSV, then Import CSV. Spreadsheets and other apps: export a CSV and use Import CSV or Text.
Can I take my cards to other apps?
Deck ⋯ menu › Export Cards › For Anki (.txt) (Anki sets up note types, decks and tags automatically) or For Noji, Quizlet & Others (.csv) (plain question and answer). Memos, images and drawings only travel in .deckmemo files.
What do the ratings mean?
✓ Knew It — correct without notes. ≈ Needed Notes — correct with your Memo. ✕ Didn't Know It — wrong or couldn't recall. Undo your last rating with the ↺ button or ⌘Z.
What counts toward my streak?
A day counts when you rate at least 5 cards (adjustable in Settings). Opening the app alone never counts.
How do I write equations?
Put LaTeX between $ signs, like $\frac{a}{b}$, or use $$ on their own lines for a display equation. The ? in the formatting bar lists examples.
Dictation isn't working
Allow Microphone and Speech Recognition for DeckMemo in Settings › Privacy & Security.
